There may be at times you need to take MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) by wearing your teeth braces in your mouth. However, sometimes the results will be not exact and the technician most probably suggest you to do the test again by removing the dental braces to get more accurate results.
The braces sometimes will cause some objects to distract the images of the brain taken with the help MRI.But if you want to take images of any other parts of the body, such as your legs there will not pose a problem at all.
To sum-up,the presence of metal components during a brain scan will complicate the scan and skew the results. So it is much better to take MRI without your braces on your teeth to get more accurate results.

Some Pediatric dentists has the opinion that thumb sucking over a prolonged period of time doesn’t harm the child’s teeth. But thumb sucking during the course of time will dislocate the teeth’s position which will force the child to wear a brace in his later life.
It is a misconception that thumb sucking will completely misalign the teeth.Thumb Sucking is a natural human reflex which the infants develop when they are in the mother’s womb. The thumb sucking in the early days of babyhood will give comfort to the baby.It has been told that we don’t want to discourage the baby when they put their finger into their mouth.
But in the case of children who continues their habit of thumb sucking even after they stopped breast feeding will sometimes can cause an extension in the upper teeth which is commonly called as buck teeth.
Problems of prolonged thumb sucking
- The front lower teeth will begin to tilt in
- Sometimes the upper and lower teeth will come together
- The constant pressure due to thumb sucking will cause the upper jaw to become narrow
Normally, most of the child stops thumb sucking after they stopped breast feeding or bottle feeding
Discouraging methods if your child still prefers thumb sucking after he/she stopped thumb sucking
- Positive reinforcement therapy is the best method which helps the children to stop thumb sucking.parents can enforce a positive habit by using a sticker chart or a gold star chart. The child can resist thumb sucking by placing a star on the chart for everyday.
- Parents can also try a chance by applying bitter tasting solutions to discourage thumb sucking. But this is not effective as the first method since this habit is actually not a pleasurable one but an ingrained one.
- Use protective gloves to prevent the child from putting the thumb into the mouth. But this method will only be effective if the child is too small to be able to remove the glove on his/her own
- There is finger or thumb guard available at any drug market which makes it difficult for the child to suck the thumb which eventually will discourage the child from sucking the thumb.
Better consult a pediatric dentist if none of the above methods work

In this modern world there are lots of choices for you to choose a toothpaste compared to old days.It may be fluoride or tartar control,gel-based or cream based, mouth wash containing toothpastes, and whitening toothpastes to bring back the shininess to your teeth.
All the toothpastes will include a few similar ingredients. For example, most of the toothpastes include some kind of abrasive agents like silicates and calcium carbonates. These kind of chemical agents are responsible for the actual scrubbing of food debris, and bacteria from your mouth.
The toothpastes will also include some thickening agents like seaweed based ingredients and gums which helps the teeth for its appealing texture. The tooth pastes will also includes some detergents like Sodium lauryl sulfate which is the cause for producing lather while brushing.
Additionally, the toothpastes or gel will also contain glycerol or like substances which helps to retain moisture. Finally,Saccharine like sweeteners are there which helps to give the toothpaste its pleasant taste. But these kind of sweeteners has no role in the cleansing of the teeth.
Fluoride is the most vital ingredient that should be in a toothpaste.Fluoride is a mineral which effectively reduces the risk of tooth decay by strengthening the tooth enamel and reversing the damage caused by bacterial acids.Brushing with Fluoridated toothpaste will help you to provide more benefits for your teeth than consuming fluoride containing water supplies.
Other kind of toothpastes are Tartar Control which helps to remove tartar(hardened plaque). If tartar is left carelessly it will accumulate on the teeth and under the gums which eventually causes gum diseases. These tooth pastes includes zinc citrate and pyrophosphate which prevents the tartar in building up.Some tooth pastes will contain triclosan which is an antibiotic that eliminates some oral bacteria.
Sensitive teeth can be handled by using special formulations which contains strontium chloride and potassium nitrate. These chemicals block the pathways that lead to the nerve, thus helping reduce sensitivity.
Whitening toothpastes will be effective only in small way by making teeth stains a little less noticeable. These toothpastes contain abrasive chemicals which pull off stains from the tooth
What ever toothpastes you choose,Ensure that your toothpastes are approved by American Dental Association(ADA).

If the nerve of a tooth rots or decays, the only way to save that tooth is to do endodontic treatment which is most popularly called as Root Canal Treatment. This treatment is done by an endodontist.
The time to visit an endodontist
- When you have teeth sensitivity for hot and cold for relatively longer periods of time.
- When there is visible swelling of gums of the sensitive tooth
- When there is hurting sensation to simple biting of tooth
- When the tooth look discolored even though there is no pain for that tooth
Root canal treatment is normally done to save the teeth from salvage. But to do this treatment the patient had to spent a good amount of money. The endodontist will probe to the affected tooth/teeth with some tests and then he will suggest the patient whether this treatment has to do or not to do.
An Outlook about the Root canal treatment
The tooth will be first anesthetized, and then an opening is made through pulp area through the tooth crown. The root canal lengths will then be determined and the deceased and infected pulp is then slowly scooped out. Later, the canals cleansed. Additionally, they will be broadened as well as shaped using endodontic files. They will be then filled and sealed. A metal column will be used to give structural support as well as to retain the restorative materials added. The tooth will be sealed then using the filling. Then a porcelain crown will be added for additional protection. The crown or filling needs replacement periodically though.
The Root canal treatment doesn’t hurt all since the whole treatment procedure will take only by the administration of anesthetics. But the treatment is sometimes painful when the alveolar bone is involved since the anesthetics fail to work properly when this alveolar bone starts to decay. In such circumstances the first visit might be painful but in the subsequent visits they are almost painless.
