Dental implant is required in instances where a tooth has come out due to some accident, gum infection or so. By fixing an artificial tooth, dental surgeons try to bring the life of patients back to normal. Dental implants are also known as prosthetic alternatives for missing teeth.

Dental implants are artificial replacement of tooth in case the original tooth has fallen off. The prosthodontics are the specialists for dental implants. As part of the process, the prosthodontics use a metal rod like artificial tooth and fix it on alveolar bone, the place where tooth is missing.
Dental implants is a highly skilled service and the doctor has to undergo rigorous training for learning the apt way of conducting dental implant. Therefore, in many dental colleges, the budding prosthodontics provide free dental implant to patients who are willing to use their services.
These students are strictly monitored by the leading practitioners and therefore the chances of implant going wrong is less. Also, it is a good way for poor people to get their implant done and lead a normal life which otherwise they will not be able to afford.
Usually the cost of a single dental implant ranges between $1500 and $3000, however with the help of university students and such other budding prosthodontics, one can get a free dental implant.

The cost of invisaligners depend on many factors and there is no one blanket rate for the invisalign braces treatment. The orthodontic will be in the best position to determine the cost and inform you about the true cost.

Usually the cost is comprised of the severity of the crookedness, the time considered for treatment, the area where the treatment is taken, the goodwill of the orthodontic, your treatment goal, the insurance cover available for invisalign braces treatment and any other factor that the orthodontic deem fit.
Generally, the invisaligner cost differs from place to place and city to city. Invisaligners also known as invisible braces cost similar to traditional braces. These braces are a good way to hide your teeth braces treatment in almost the same cost that you would have paid for traditional braces treatment.
In US the invisalign treatment usually cost between $3500 and $8000 with $5000 being the national average for the country. This cost can differ for other countries and also within USA it may differ from places to places.
So, compared to the traditional metal braces, the benefit that invisalign provide without letting the world know that you are taking a dental treatment is worth its cost.

Often after the orthodontic is done with the crooked teeth treatment with the help of braces, dentists suggest that permanent retainers or retentions should be worn for some time. Retainers are advised as the gums, the teeth and the jaws should hold onto the new positions of the shifted teeth. In absence of retainers, in many situations the alignment of teeth was disturbed and teeth went back to their original positions leaving the crookedness of the teeth.
Therefore, it is very important and critical for the patient to wear these retainers even after the braces treatment. The question now is what are the considerations or the points to bear in mind for retainers?
The first point to ask the orthodontic is that whether the retainers have to be worn permanently (fixed) or for some time. As in some cases, retainers are required to be worn permanently.
The second consideration should be whether these retainers can be fixed behind the teeth as no one would be able to notice them. However, usually these retainers are invisible and others can not notice these, but fixing them behind the teeth will add to the beauty of the smile.
Third thing is to remember that once you start using the retainers, make it a point to wear them. Most of the time, people forget to wear retainers and simply keep them either in their purse or pockets.
Fourth thing and a very important point is to clean your retainers frequently. If retainers are not cleaned then there are chances of some infection to creep into teeth. So, the hygiene of retainers should be adequately maintained.
The fifth point is relating to handling the retainers. It is easy to lose these retainers as you frequently take them out. Therefore, always place them near to you and fix them back once you are done with eating or cleaning.
By keeping these few points in mind, one can enhance the benefits from retainers and make the most of retainers.

Most toothpastes which are meant for kids have the flavor of bubble-gum or candy otherwise they will be reluctant to brush their teeth. But we can notice a label on the box of these toothpastes advising that the toothpastes should only be used under the supervision of adults. This is because of the fluorides in the toothpastes.
Fluorides are actually good for the teeth and these toothpastes are generally regarded as safe for use but the fluoride content in the children’s toothpastes are much higher than the required daily amount.
We get fluorides from water and also by consuming other beverages. The drinking water contains very less fluoride content compared to that of toothpastes. The toothpastes which are meant for children contain 1000-1100 parts per million (PPM) of fluorides which are almost equal to that of adult toothpastes.
Kids love to use more pastes while brushing the teeth because obviously they love the sweet flavor. The colorful cartoon characters on the boxes of the toothpastes encourage them to take more pastes which are not really good for the kids’ teeth.
Children below the age of 3 years have the tendency to swallow the toothpastes since they do not have complete control over their swallowing reflex. There are kids who love to eat flavored tooth pastes because of its sweet taste.
All these lead to an excess intake of fluoride which eventually will harm the teeth.Teeth keep growing up to 16 years.Excess intake of fluoride will lead to a disease called fluorosis which will halt the growth of the teeth.
Fluorosis can be classified into two:-
Mild Fluorosis-There will be little white specks on the teeth and this is seen in most of the people
Severe Fluorosis-There will be brown deformities on the teeth which is caused by the regular excess intake of fluoride.
Steps to be taken by the parents to avoid fluorosis in children
- Take only small amount of paste for the children and do not avoid toothpastes completely for children since fluorides are essential for the proper growth of the teeth
- Parents should guide them for how to brush the teeth and they should be physically present while the kids are brushing the teeth
- For kids under the age of 3, parents should brush their kids’ teeth using proper techniques.
- For children at the ages between 3 and 6,parents should allow their kids to brush on their own so that they can be used to it and also brush them properly if they are not perfectly done
- Parents’ supervision should end at age 7, but may continue till the child learns proper brushing technique.
- Follow the instructions mentioned on the package of the toothpaste.
So the question arises why can’t we have toothpastes with low level of fluoride?
This is because fluoride content of 1000-1100 PPM prevents dental cavities and this is also approved by Food and drug administration. No research has been done to establish the usefulness of lower levels of fluoride in preventing dental cavities. This is why the makers of toothpastes haven’t considered lowering of fluoride levels.
In 2001 the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention persuaded the toothpaste makers to conduct a study on the effectiveness of low fluoride content toothpastes. There has been no further development on this issue.

Most of the people, avoid using permanent retainers on their newly aligned teeth. The common mentality is that once the crooked teeth are shifted to their appropriate places and the teeth are properly aligned, then the need to wear permanent retainers does not arise.

However, it’s a myth. As wearing metal braces or invisaligners are essential for rectifying the crooked teeth problem, likewise permanent braces are required for maintaining the alignment of teeth. If these braces are not worn, then after sometime teeth may go back to their original position and rebuild the crookedness.
The permanent braces are literally invisible and no one can notice that you are wearing it. In many cases these braces can be put on the back of the teeth, so there is no chance of anyone else noticing it. With the help of these permanent braces, one can maintain the aesthetic smile and confidence. Therefore, for maintaining that glorious and gorgeous smile, it is important that you care for your teeth even after braces are out.

Most of us get terrified with the idea of putting metal braces on our teeth for couple of years. We see many people around us having braces, however, when it comes to us, it is definitely an intimidating feeling. However, if one knows the procedure of fixing traditional metal braces on teeth, then this fear can be avoided.
In the first consultation meeting, usually dentists examine the crooked teeth and the extent of misalignment. Based on the preliminary examination, most of the orthodontics suggests an x-ray for teeth. Once the x-ray report is received, then they analyze the gap and the crookedness of the teeth.
In the second consultation meeting, the patient will undergo etching on teeth surface for creating micro porosities. Then a bonding agent is used for strengthening the bond between teeth and the bracket. Bracket is added to single tooth and is square in shape. A special light is casted on teeth for hardening the fixture. This procedure is repeated for all the crooked. Then metal bands which are also called molar bands are placed to ensure that brackets stick well with each other. Lastly, an arch wire is passed through the brackets and fixed with ligatures.
Usually after this meeting, patients are advised to visit the orthodontic at an interval of a month. This would help the dentist to assess the progress and identify any issues early on for better treatment and quick recovery. Generally, these braces should be worn for a period of two years after which the dentist will assess the situation and remove the braces.
A very important point to keep in mind is to wear permanent retainers after the teeth braces treatment is over. Many people avoid wearing permanent retainers after braces treatment, but forget that teeth make shift back to their original positions unless cared for. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that permanent retainers should be worn to avoid the shock of seeing crooked teeth again.
